About Me

I’m Rob — a writer, aging runner, and quality-driven problem-solver based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.

After 40 years in high-pressure roles, I’ve seen what makes businesses succeed and what quietly makes them fail. Those decades shaped how I think, how I lead, and how I write.

What This Blog Is About

This is where I publish the implementation-level thinking that doesn’t fit anywhere else. The frameworks, the mental models, the decision tools — the stuff that sits underneath the surface advice everyone else is already giving.

Most of what you’ll find here connects to a simple question I’ve been asking for forty years inside organisations: what actually changes how a person thinks and acts? Not what sounds good. Not what trends. What works, applied to real problems, in writing that treats you like an adult.

You’ll Find Writing On:

  • Strategic thinking and decision science — the frameworks that separate people who lead from people who execute
  • Stoic philosophy in practiceMarcus Aurelius applied to modern work and the kind of pressure that doesn’t show up in management books
  • Leadership and organisational intelligence — what actually works inside complex organisations, beyond the management-speak
  • Career architecture — how to build something that compounds, and how to recognise when you’ve built the wrong thing
  • The occasional dry observation — forty years of watching people do things the hard way generates material

A Bit of Background

I’ve spent four decades in senior quality assurance roles, leading teams where pressure is constant, details matter, and systems either hold or collapse. Those years taught me to think clearly, lead without drama, and build processes that actually work. Outside of work, I completed an Ironman triathlon — which reinforced something I’d already learned in quality management: consistency beats intensity, and small decisions compound into big outcomes.

Where Else to Find Me

I write at Medium, check out my articles →

I also write on Quora, where I share thinking on career development for senior professionals — visit A Fulcrum on Quora → You can also find me answering questions directly on my personal Quora profile.

If you’d like to connect professionally, you can find me on LinkedIn — where I occasionally share the kind of thinking that’s harder to develop fully in a post.

Alongside the writing, I’ve put together a small set of practical tools for people who want to go further than reading. Three resources — a strategic thinking toolkit, a 90-day Stoic morning workbook, and a flagship implementation pack built around seven foundational books — and a curated reading list through Bookshop.org.

They’re designed to close the gap between knowing something and actually using it.
